The Gain Trials -v1.6.1- By Bladerune9 May 2026
The Gain Trials: Understanding the Controversial Study
- The Routine: Players wake up in their apartment and must manage hunger, energy, and hygiene.
- The Work: To afford food (which is the catalyst for growth) and rent, the player must perform menial tasks or mini-games.
- The Consumption: This is the core mechanic. Consuming vast quantities of food leads to weight gain, which is necessary to progress through the "Trials."
- The Trials: These are scripted events where the player character is measured, prodded, and transformed further, unlocking new story branches and higher payouts.
- Early Game: Prioritize "Gain: Vitality" nodes. You want at least 120 HP by Floor 2.
- Mid Game: Look for the Leechblade relic. In v1.6.1, Leechblade was buffed to heal 3 HP per hit (up from 1 HP). This offsets the new enemy aggression.
- Late Game: Do not use the Crucible more than twice on the same relic. Instead, use the new Shatter command (added in v1.6.0) to break unwanted relics into raw essence for the Shrine of Certainty.
However, some players are unhappy with the Crucible nerf. @StackMaster9000 laments: The Gain Trials -v1.6.1- By Bladerune9
What’s new in 1.6.1
- New mechanic — Resonance Shards: Collectible fragments dropped by elite foes that let you permanently reroll one passive stat per shard at an upgrade terminal. Encourages targeted builds and offers recovery from unlucky RNG.
- Balance pass: Major adjustments to damage scaling and enemy health curves across Acts II–IV to reduce steamrolls and keep encounters challenging but fair.
- Boss reworks: Two boss fights (The Mawwright, Echo Regent) had AI and phase tweaks to prevent exploitative kiting and promote pattern recognition.
- QoL improvements:
The success of The Gain Trials lies in its gameplay-first approach. Many games in this niche are "click-to-see-art" experiences. Bladerune9, however, respects the player's time by providing: The Gain Trials: Understanding the Controversial Study
- v1.7.0 (December 2024): A new playable character: The Revenant, who starts with zero "Gains" but steals stats from enemies permanently.
- v1.8.0 (March 2025): Endless Mode. Once you beat the final Trial (Floor 5), you can continue ascending with exponentially harder modifiers.
- Console Port: A tentative stretch goal. Bladerune9 is currently focused on PC stability first.
