This paper explores the intersection of South Indian hereditary aristocracy and Telugu cinema (Tollywood). While post-independence India officially abolished royal privy purses, the cultural capital of erstwhile royal families—particularly those from the regions of present-day Andhra Pradesh and Telangana—has persisted. This study documents the filmography of direct descendants who entered the film industry as actors, producers, or patrons. Furthermore, it analyzes the recent phenomenon of “popular videos” (vlogs, interviews, and social media reels) produced by these families, examining how they leverage digital platforms to re-brand feudal legacy into aspirational lifestyle content. The paper argues that Telugu royal families have transitioned from territorial rulers to “curators of nostalgia,” using cinema and digital media to maintain socio-cultural relevance in the 21st century.
