SkyGlobe is a classic DOS-based astronomy program originally released in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Because it is a 16-bit DOS application, it cannot run natively on 64-bit versions of Windows 10.

  1. Download Winevdm – Go to the official GitHub repository (winevdm) and download the latest release (e.g., otvdm-v0.9.0.zip).
  2. Extract the ZIP to a folder, e.g., C:\otvdm.
  3. Get Skyglobe – You’ll need the original Skyglobe 4.0 files. These are abandonware but available via Internet Archive. Search for “Skyglobe 4.0 floppy images” or download an already extracted version (ensure .EXE, .DLL, .HLP files).
  4. Associate .EXE – Right-click any 16-bit .EXE → Open with → Choose another app → Browse to C:\otvdm\otvdm.exe. Tick “Always use this app”.
  5. Run SKYGLOBE.EXE. The program will launch in a resizable window.
