The Author and Origin
The book was written by the celebrated Sufi mystic and scholar Ahmed ibn Ali al-Buni (d. 1225 CE). Al-Buni was a master of the spiritual sciences and lived during the Ayyubid dynasty in Egypt and North Africa. While he authored several treatises on the subject, Shams Ul Maarif (The Sun of Knowledge) remains his most influential work.
Structure: The title "al-Kubra" (The Larger) distinguishes it from al-Buni's shorter treatises on the same subject. It is divided into roughly 40 chapters covering various esoteric sciences.
