Renault Uch Reset [updated]
For Renault Vehicles with a Basic Instrument Cluster:
- Turn the Ignition On: Place your key in the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position (but do not start the engine).
- Access the Menu: Use the button on the end of your turn signal stalk (or the button on the instrument cluster, depending on your model) to navigate through the menu until you find "Service Interval" or "Service" or it might directly show "Reset".
- Select and Hold: Once you find the service interval display, press and hold the button for a few seconds (usually 5-10 seconds) until the display starts to flash or shows a confirmation message.
- Confirm Reset: Release the button and press it again to confirm the reset. The service light should reset, and the interval will be reset to its default setting (usually 15,000 km or 12,000 miles, depending on your Renault's settings).
Step 5: Reconnect Battery
- Connect positive (+) terminal first.
- Connect negative (-) terminal second.
- Tighten securely.
- Replaced with a new unit (dealer programmed to VIN)
- Or a used unit cloned (specialist service – retains key compatibility)
Method 3: Used UCH Swap (The "Virginizing" Process)
If you bought a second-hand UCH from a scrapyard, it is locked to the donor car. It will not work in your car until it is "virginized" (reset to factory defaults).
If the issue is related to the immobilizer, a hard reset via the OBD-II port Renault Uch Reset
If your Renault experiences electrical glitches—such as windows not working, intermittent locking, or the car not starting—a UCH reset can often resolve the issue without a costly replacement. For Renault Vehicles with a Basic Instrument Cluster:
- Turn ignition ON (dash lights on, engine off).
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Turn ignition OFF, remove key.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Insert key, turn ON again — security light should go out.
- Start engine.
Possible next steps:
- Check for water damage – Remove the UCH (usually three screws behind glove box). Open the plastic case. If you see corrosion, clean with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Dry with a hairdryer (cool setting). Reinstall and retry reset.
- Replace the UCH battery backup – Some UCH units contain a small CR2032 battery on the circuit board. Replace it.
- Virginize or reprogram the UCH – A used UCH from a scrapyard will not work without programming. Specialist tools (ABRITES, FVDI, or Renault CLIP) can erase the old VIN and pair it to your car. This is a job for an auto locksmith or Renault specialist.
- Replace with a new UCH – A brand new UCH from Renault costs €300-600 ($350-$700) and must be coded to the car at a dealer (additional €150-250). Some independent specialists offer cloning – they copy your old UCH’s data to a new or repaired unit.
