- Download the driver package to a known folder.
- Right-click the driver installer (.exe) → Properties → Compatibility tab.
- Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select “Windows Vista” or “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)”.
- Also check “Run this program as an administrator.”
- Click Apply → OK.
- Run the installer and follow on-screen prompts. Reboot if the installer requests it.
- Extract the folder.
- Go to Device Manager (Start > right-click Computer > Manage > Device Manager).
- Your scanner will appear as an "Unknown Device" with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right-click > Update Driver Software > Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list.
- Click Have Disk > Browse to the extracted folder and select
umax4100.inf. - Ignore warnings about unsigned drivers (Test Mode ignores them).
- Install.
