By analyzing case studies ranging from David Evans’ The Story of Film to contemporary "brand-servation" style documentaries on streaming platforms (e.g., Netflix’s The Movies That Made Us and Taylor Swift’s Miss Americana), this paper argues that the modern entertainment documentary has blurred the line between historiography and marketing. The paper explores the economic incentives of "synergistic storytelling," the curated intimacy of celebrity access, and the ethical implications of "corporate memoir."
