Garmin software updates are installed via the ActiveCaptain app for marine devices, Garmin Express for automotive/outdoor units, or the Garmin Connect app for wearables. Method 2: Manual update (if Garmin Express fails)
- Go to garmin.com/support
- Search for your exact model number (e.g., “nüvi 45”).
- Download the latest Software Update file (
.gcdor.exe). - Extract the file to your computer.
- Connect your Garmin and locate its drive (e.g.,
G:\). - Copy the update file to the
Garminfolder on the device. - Safely eject and restart the Garmin – it will install automatically.

Step 5 – Install the 4NSF Update
- If an update labeled 4NSF (or “System Software 4.NSF”) appears, select Install.
- Review the storage space warning (if any). Some map updates require a microSD card.
- Click Install All or Install Update.
- Wait for the download to complete. Do not disconnect the device.
- After downloading, Garmin Express will transfer and install the update to your device.
