- Insert your 32GB SD Card into your PC (using a USB adapter or built-in slot).
- Open BalenaEtcher.
- Click "Flash from file" and select your downloaded Batocera
.img.gzfile. (You do not need to unzip it; Etcher handles .gz files). - Select your 32GB SD Card as the target.
- Click "Flash".

This guide covers selecting, downloading, flashing, and first-time setup of Batocera on a 32 GB microSD card for a Raspberry Pi 3 (models 3 B / 3 B+). Assumes you want a full-featured 32 GB installation (ROMs, BIOS, saves, media). Getting Started with Batocera on Your Raspberry Pi
Booting Up Batocera:
- ROMs: place into /roms/
folders. - BIOS: Some systems (PlayStation, Dreamcast, Neo Geo, etc.) require BIOS files — check Batocera wiki for exact filenames and place them in the BIOS folder. Missing BIOS causes systems to not boot or show errors.

- 500MB to the
/bootpartition (FAT32 – visible to Windows). This contains the kernel and configs. - ~29GB to the
/userdatapartition (EXT4 – invisible to Windows).
To put the operating system onto your 32GB card, you'll need a "flashing" tool on your computer.
