1. Overview
Error Code: 50005
Software: Cummins INSITE (Professional, Lite, or Remote)
Description: "ECM Serial Number Mismatch – The serial number stored in the file does not match the serial number read from the ECM."
Step 6 – Advanced / Recovery Actions
- [ ] Perform a hard reset of ECM: disconnect vehicle batteries for 5 minutes, reconnect, then retry.
- [ ] If flashing/calibration fails with 50005 mid-process, the ECM may be bricked – requires recovery via ECM recovery mode (contact Cummins distributor).
- [ ] Update INSITE software itself – older versions (pre-8.0) have known timeout bugs with certain adapters.

Delete any remaining folders in C:\Intelect\INSITE to ensure a fresh start.
- Ensure proper battery voltage and solid ground to ECM; low voltage can cause communication faults.
- Connect to a different engine known to communicate to isolate ECM vs. PC/adapter issue.
